Welcome!

My name is Olivia Bonlander and I am currently attending the University of Wisconsin-Stout and I am majoring in Art Education with a minor in English Writing and Literature. I aspire to foster an open and nurturing environment within the varying classrooms I work within while also encouraging constant growth in my students.

This professional website will shed a light on my explorations into the worlds of both art and education as I progress through college and other forms of professional development. I have partaken in many forms of professional development in my free time in order to continue my own personal growth as an educator. These forms of professional development include:

  • Wisconsin Art Education Association State Conferences

  • WAEA Pre-Service State Conferences

  • National Art Education Association National Conferences

  • Residency Teaching In Boyceville, Wisconsin

  • Pre Student Teaching Experiences

  • Student Teaching

  • And many more!

My Philosophy of Education

I work to emphasize student centered learning within my classroom. The purpose of myself, as an art educator in schools, is to create cross curricular connections for students while also enabling a creative environment to experiment and explore new ideas.

My students all enter my classroom with their own experiences and knowledge which then requires an individualized instruction. So, in turn when lesson planning, I make sure to include accommodations, modifications, and special needs of my students. This can be located in the column beside my procedures to I can properly break down all steps and objectives that need to be covered. Having the opportunity to individually work with nearly every student within a district is the beauty of being a ‘specials’ educator and something that I take very seriously. Assessment then also follows this individualized system. By allowing all students the opportunity to resubmit revised work, they can reflect new knowledge of objectives and work to improve their own understanding of standards.  By using multiple disciplines to teach the students within my classroom are able to experiment with what art means to them. This has the potential of being art for art’s sake or the functionality of art in the world. I take on the responsibility of student learning while allowing the students to hold themselves responsible for their own experimentation and providing evidence of understanding.  This added responsibility of the students help them continue to move forward with their artwork as well as instill pride. As students develop their own passion for art making, my passion to educate them and help them improve their skill grows!
