The 6 Hats

Today an educator attended our ARTED 308 class and presented about the 6 hats which follow varying personality traits and how she uses them in her classroom. We took a survey to identify our own hats and which areas of our personality we need to work on. While I am positive and creative, the hat that I need to work on currently is my analytical thinking side. From the descriptions given by this educator it seemed with this educational format you need to either dive in head first and go 100%. Within the art classroom I do not think my philosophies of education necessarily align with the goals of this platform. I think this provides a great outlook to students to better understand their skill sets in the educational and worldly settings that they are experiencing. I feel that a deeper understanding of themselves aides in their ability to learn in the classroom. I thought that the speaker from today demonstrated some real commitment to this venture and how it can impact her students and the local community. They even sent out the 6 hats survey to parents of their students before parent teacher conferences! That is the commitment within the classroom that is needed for this 6 hats training to really be successful. The art classroom often times is unpredictable when it comes to class schedules, interactions, and expectations. If students were to only come to art one every week I do not believe that this could uphold what this educator is trying to advocate the 6 hat strategy for.
