I think as an educator I struggle to use mindfulness within my day to day life for my own benefit. Some of the interesting tactics that I feel could personally work for me as an educator were the ones that required taking time from activities I am already doing. Taking the time while I am walking to the copier or to the lunchroom to breathe and stop letting my mind roam to my mostly full to-do list. Walking mindfully is my opportunity to take back the time in my day. Another vital step in adopting mindfulness within the classroom is making meaningful connections with my students. This is something that I feel normally comes easy to me and hope to continue into students teaching and future job opportunities. Meaningful conversations are what drive me as an educator.

I feel that mindfulness comes difficult to me because I do not want to take the extra time to do it but really mindfulness comes with activities that already occur during the day. When feeling anxious I use breathing to feel calm and recenter myself. I believe this is one of the only mindfulness techniques that I am frequently using and keeping myself accountable on. I find this especially helpful when handling tough to deal with students! Breathing can really come in handy. Reminding yourself that you can only control your own thoughts and actions especially when handling tough to deal with situations. I want to be seen as an educator that is calm and collected in the tough spots. I want to be seen as dependable which comes with the mindfulness territory.
