While reading this passage I was interested in analyzing how I choose to teach multiculturalism. The main goal of teaching multiculturalism is to equip all students with the necessary skills to conceptualize nonwestern dominant cultures, when teaching in the United States. The way that I analyzed the varying approaches and how I choose to accomplish this task is using the Human Relations Approach for elementary education and the Multicultural Education approach for secondary. I feel that it is important to teach tolerance at the younger levels especially in high diversity areas where there are many minority groups involved. As students continue through their education, I feel that discussing the ‘distribution of power to reduce the discrimination and prejudice’ is vital! Using multiple methods within the right capacity can aide in the most successful multicultural education for students. One thing that I found especially interesting was the usage of multicultural artists in order to reinforce the tolerance and nonwestern traditions. These ideals can be ‘practiced through curriculum design, teaching methods, content, goals, and objectives.
