Video Reflection

I really enjoyed watching the way that Mr. Harsch taught about the Aesthetic Experience because of the understanding he included within everything he did. You can see his passion for working with students and working with these specific minority students. It was interesting to see the variations in which he taught aesthetics (ceramics, art history, criticism, and vocabulary) and it inspired me with multiple variations to teach my own aesthetics lessons. Mr. Harsch also continues to keep his students engaged throughout the entire lesson. I believe this is a mix of adapting the lesson to fit their needs and he also can audibly hear that they are engaged through their usage of language within the classroom. I feel that this is most important because you can really see the growth of vocabulary amongst students. Mr. Harsch also made sure to use lots and lots of visuals! Without these concepts like aesthetics can be difficult to understand. I also really felt that personalizing the examples that he gave made the students laugh and more interested in what he was saying. This is something that I would definitely carry over into my own future teaching experiences. I did feel that this video included some outdated usage of the visuals. I personally would take advantage of the internet and use electronic visuals in order to maintain a more eco-friendly classroom while also creating a great learning environment. I did feel though that the lesson itself was great and not outdated. I could see this being taught within a school today and I feel that it is important that this concept of the aesthetic experience is taught today!
