When starting a new unit I always begin with some sort of activity in order to check for understanding and previous knowledge on the subject. Normally this can be seen during a video or reading activity which incorporates some interdisciplinary curriculum. Then I move into a mixture of teacher directed teaching and hands on exploration among students in order to educate them on important concepts. Once the students are feeling confident with the processes then we move into an open work time in which they can approach me and ask questions when needed. I also walk around and advise students throughout the classroom to ensure maximum understanding. Once the projects are completed students complete a reflection activity and take part in some level of critique. I enjoy using critiques as a closure to give students an opportunity to speak about their own works and practice public speaking within the classroom.
